Founded in 1990 by Moira Miller, Prima Stage School is a professional institution dedicated to nurturing the talents and passions of all its students. For many, Prima becomes a second family, where lifelong friendships are formed within the studio walls. In September 2019, tmactive, the charitable, not-for-profit organisation responsible for delivering sport and leisure facilities on behalf of Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council, took over the management of the school. They introduced a 15-week term to help students progress at a steadier pace.
The school offers over 80 classes for students of all ages and abilities, from 2 to 18+ years. lt follows the IDTA Graded syllabus for Ballet, Tap, Modern Contemporary, and also offers medal tests in Musical Theatre and Street Dance. Additionally, we follow the LAMDA syllabus for Drama. Students typically study each grade for 12 to 18 months, and we are proud to maintain a record of excellent examination results with a 100% pass rate.
In addition to technical training, students have the opportunity to perform on stage in our professional, high-quality productions. Each year, we hold either a junior or senior show, along with a separate drama performance. Students can also showcase their talents at dance platforms, festivals, and displays.
Children are never held back, nor do our classes have mixed grades. The average number of students in a syllabus class is 8 with a maximum number of 12 (our medal test classes will cater for up to 15 in the class). We are also aware that children can only be stretched so far and with that in mind, we invite top London choreographers to do regular workshops in all areas of performance – these are open to all students and we encourage suitable students to audition for outside companies such as the English Youth Ballet; National Youth Ballet; local pantomime and the CAT scheme at Trinity Laban to widen their performance skills as much as possible.
All classes are designed to technically develop students to reach their full potential whether on a recreational or pre-professional level.
