Established in 1990 by Moira Miller, Prima is a professional school, nurturing the talents and passions of all it’s students. It is a second family to many of its students and lifelong friendships are formed within the studio walls. The school has over 80 classes for all ages and abilities, from 2 to 18+ yrs. And moving onwards, from September 2019, tmactive at Larkfield Leisure Centre will take on the operation of the school introducing a 15 week term to enable students to progress at a steadier rate.
Prima Stage School follows the IDTA Graded syllabus for Ballet, Tap, Modern Contemporary and offers medal tests in Musical Theatre and street dance. The school also follows the LAMDA syllabus for Drama. Children usually study a given grade for between 12 and 18 months and we hold a record of excellent examination results with 100% pass rate.
The students also experience the thrill of performing on stage in our slick, professional shows – annually we hold either a junior or senior show and a separate drama show. Other performance opportunities include dance platforms, festivals and displays.
Children are never held back, nor do our classes have mixed grades. The average number of students in a syllabus class is 8 with a maximum number of 12 (our medal test classes will cater for up to 15 in the class). We are also aware that children can only be stretched so far and with that in mind, we invite top London choreographers to do regular workshops in all areas of performance – these are open to all students and we encourage suitable students to audition for outside companies such as the English Youth Ballet; National Youth Ballet; local pantomime and the CAT scheme at Trinity Laban to widen their performance skills as much as possible.
All classes are designed to technically develop students to reach their full potential whether on a recreational or pre-professional level.
